Atilla meets Pope Leo

For all you Atilla fans, this is the promised photograph of the very location in Northern Italy where Pope Leo the Great convinced Atilla not to attack Rome. Amazing, isn't it? This is taken from Paolo's car as we were driving from his parent's home to Mantua. (You have to read the road sign carefully)

And for those of you who remember one of our former Math/Science teachers, this must be some long lost relatives and their furniture store, also on the road to Mantua. Mr. Ghidotti, where are you? Somewhere surrounded by copper in Arizona?

How was the conflict resolved? I've heard tell that they played a game of poker, winner takes all.

haha yeah sure attila and pope leo played a game of poker without the cards and without the table and without the rules sure that sure would work!

Poker can resolve any conflict. It gets realy exciting when something big is on the line, like ur city being sacked.

Yep, I agree with Mike. I also think that they might've Romboed for the city. That'd be really fun: Pope vs. Atilla

For those of you who aren't familiar with Rombo, never mind.

lol, yes these are all very mature ways to negotiate.

No no. You've got it all wrong. Pope Leo just probably said that Atilla could sack Rome later, and then payed him a little bribe...

i heard this song that said, "then there shined a shiny demond in the middle of the road and it said sing me the best song in the world. so we did. and it happened to be the best song in the world." well i just finished my biography and i just thought u might like to know that legend has it that attila looked up to the sky and he saw a man who was presumably an angel grinding his teeth and holding a sword above his head and he threatened to cut attila's head off if he didn't reason with leo so HA! i beat all of you!

Matthew Yost said...

No, that couldn't be. You see, I have a photograph, an actual photograph, of them playing cards.

Father Leo talked about Atilla meeting Leo on the retreat....
He said they did't play cards, but prayed.

I really think we should ask Mrs. May...
